FAQ's

These factors are known to make waxing prone to “Skin Lifting”: Blood-thinning medications, autoimmune disease medications, taking prednisone and/or steroids, Psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, and/ or very sensitive skin. NO waxing services are allowed with any active sores, infections, etc. USE EXTREME CAUTION: The following products can make your skin more sensitive – Oral Antibiotics, Topical Antibiotics, Acne Medications, and Retinol. Do not wax after a recent surgical peel, microdermabrasion, or chemical peel. Wax with caution while using products with the following ingredients: glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, salicylic acid, or other acid-based products. Because I care about your health and the integrity of your skin, Wax and Skin Queen Salon will not perform waxing treatments if you are currently using Retin – A, Differin, Accutane, Alpha Hydroxy, Glycolic (or any other similar exfoliant). Inform me before waxing if you are on medication, if your skin is sunburned, if you have had facial surgery, or if you have undergone chemotherapy in the 6 months leading up to your waxing appointment. Thin, sensitive skin is more vulnerable to lifting and sensitivity during waxing. Waxing can cause a flare-up of cold sores, fever blisters or genital herpes.
If you have been shaving, I need a minimum of 2-3 weeks of hair growth. Hair should be pinch-able with the fingers. After your first wax, the texture, density, and the number of hairs will be greatly reduced. Because hair growth has different cycles, some stubble may appear after a couple of days of the first wax. This growth is another cycle of hair that was still in the skin during waxing, not the hair that was previously waxed. For perfect results, expect 3 waxing visits. When you wax, the hair is removed from the root and should give you hair-free skin for about three weeks, on average, after your first 3 initial visits. New hair will begin to appear at this point and within a week of regrowth, you will be ready for your next wax. You should exfoliate the area receiving the wax at least 2 days prior to your appointment. Do not use any excessive lotions, oils, creams, tanning products, etc. on your skin the day of the treatment. Basic moisturizer is okay. I am not able to wax on sunburned skin, or skin with active cold sores. During your “time of the month” skin sensitivity might be heightened, however, you are still able to get waxed. You are able to take an ibuprofen 45-60 minutes prior to your appointment if you are concerned about discomfort. Regular waxing will make your hair finer and will also cause it to grow back slower, which means less pain with each visit. I recommend an average of four weeks between waxes after your first treatment. This is an average. Many women have the bikini waxing done again in three weeks.
Rules for 24-48 hours after waxing; In the first 24-48 hours after waxing, you may experience some sensitivity such as redness or irritation in the area that was treated. These are normal and the more you wax, the less sensitive you will be. Refrain from using exfoliating products for 48 hours after waxing, as this could increase irritation. Showers are better than baths. I suggest using lukewarm water, not hot, for the first 24 hours. No saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools, or other heated sources 48 hours after waxing. Do not expose the treated area to ultraviolet rays, indoors or outdoors. For your protection, always wear sunscreen. Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours. Wear loose-fitting clothing for the next couple of days to prevent ingrown hair. Resist touching freshly waxed skin, especially on the face, as this may encourage irritation and some breakouts. Sexual activity should be avoided for at least 24-48 hours. After 48 hours, I recommend exfoliating the waxed area 2-3 times a week. This eliminates the dead skin layer and helps to avoid ingrown hair. This also helps your hair grow above the skin's surface. Do not use makeup on the face after a facial wax for as long as possible (at least 24 hours). Do not use deodorant after an underarm wax for at least 24 hours to help prevent a breakout.
Prepare your eye area before your arrival. Eyelashes should be clean, dry, and free from mascara, makeup, and oil residue. If you attend your appointment without proper preparation, I cannot guarantee lasting or satisfactory results. If you are using a lash lift serum, I strongly encourage stopping the use of the product while having the lash lift. Wax Queen and Skin strongly suggests not receiving a lash lift and tint if you are pregnant, nursing, have chronic dry eye, conjunctivitis, damaged lashes or lashes with gaps, have eye infections, trichotillomania, have recently undergone chemotherapy, or have extremely short natural lashes. You need to wait a year after having Lasik or blepharoplasty surgery before undergoing an eyelash lift or tint.
Wax Queen and Skin includes personalized consultations before all skin care services. Some individuals may break out after an initial facial due to the stimulation of products. (It is not recommended to indulge in a facial the day before a big event.) Do not use any harsh products, such as Retin-A or AHA’s, for seven days before your facial. Please attend your service with a clean face and minimal eye makeup.
Dermaplaning has been practiced by clinicians for over 40 years. Dermaplaning was originally performed as an alternative to, or a prep for, chemical exfoliation and laser treatments. Dermaplaning is a non-invasive physical exfoliation performed by removing superficial layers from the stratum corneum including vellus hair and debris. I will use a medical scalpel made specially for exfoliating the skin. Through the years there have been different blades used to perform dermaplaning. The first generation of blades used were similar to those used during surgery to create incisions. There are now safer options that reduce the risk of cutting the client based on shape and lack of pointed tip. Blades are a single use product. The rhythmic, gentle glide is performed over cleansed and prepped skin covering the entire face and neck.
Dermaplaning is an excellent mechanical exfoliation for all skin types, including all ages, except for those that have patches of acne. It is a non-invasive facial rejuvenation treatment with no downtime. This treatment removes excess surface and skin cells revealing a brighter complexion. This is done through removal of dull superficial keratinized cells that block absorption of product and nutrients. It increases the absorption of active ingredients in the treatment room and home-care regimen. Dermaplaning can be performed on clients that are pregnant and/or nursing that would otherwise not be candidates for advanced rejuvenation because of contraindications.
Botox or Fillers - wait 1 week to do any physical manipulations to the face after injections. Dermaplaning can be done prior to receiving facial injections, just not immediately after because the face requires pressure and handling. Retin-A - wait five days after the first treatment and then proceed with your normal regimen. I always suggest clients apply to a small area first to test sensitivity. Dermaplaning removes many layers from the epidermis and though it is gentle, it is strong. Diabetes - must be under control by diet or medication. Cancer - not while undergoing treatment. Accutane or Isotretinoin - after 12 month of non-use. Blood thinners, or history of bleeding problems/delayed coagulation following injury. Higher dosage of frequency of use of aspirin (may cause bleeding problems). Acne - Grade 3 or above. Postural acne lesion that is red and irritated. Cystic acne lesions. Cold Sores. Moles and skin tags. Skin cancer on treatment area. Sunburn or windburned skin.
